BBC in Annette Bening, Sam Neill Peacock Drama 'Apples Never Fall'

The BBC has acquired the Peacock family whodunnit Apples Never Fall, starring Annette Bening and Sam Neill, for its TV channels and streaming service BBC iPlayer. The U.K. public broadcaster said on Monday that it will air the show later this year.

The limited drama series is based on Liane Moriarty’s (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) bestselling novel of the same name. Writer, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich adapted the story into a seven-part drama produced by Heyday Television, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Peacock is also part of Comcast-owned NBCUniversal.

Apples Never Fall centers on the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family. Former tennis coaches Stan and Joy have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan’s door. When Joy suddenly disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents’ marriage and dark secrets begin to surface.

The series also stars Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, How to be Single), Alison Brie (Glow, Mad Men), Conor Merrigan-Turner (Thai Cave Rescue, Shattered) and Essie Randles (The Speedway Murders) as their four children.

“Suspenseful and sinister, Apples Never Fall is a compelling mystery drama that will keep BBC viewers intrigued until its riveting final episode,” said Sue Deeks, head of program acquisition at the BBC.

Executive producers are David Heyman (Wonka, Barbie), Gregory Jacobs, Moriarty, Bening, Joe Hortua, Albert Page and Jillian Share. The show is directed by Dawn Shadforth and Chris Sweeney, who is also an executive producer.
