'Dead Boy Detectives' Netflix Release Date and Trailer Unveiled

The long-awaited screen adaptation of Dead Boy Detectives will hit Netflix later this month, with a trailer for the upcoming series released Wednesday.

The show, based on the Vertigo comics by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner first published in the 1990s and early aughts, stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, best friends — and ghosts — who help solve paranormal cases in the mortal realm.

“Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts… who solve mysteries,” a release reads. “They will do anything to stick together — including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself.”

Max first ordered the show to series in 2022, but when Warner Bros. Discovery reorganized its DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, Dead Boy Detectives was dropped. Netflix claimed it in early 2023, where it will now live alongside The Sandman, a 2022 adaptation of Gaiman’s comic also part of the Vertigo series.

The trailer promises a dark buddy comedy-drama led by Rexstrew and Revri, aided by supporting cast Kassius Nelson, Yuyu Kitamura, Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Lukas Gage, David Iacono and Ruth Connell.

Dead Boy Detectives was developed for television by Steve Yockey, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz and is produced by Greg Berlanti. Jeremy Carver and Sarah Schechter also serve as executive producers.

Tuesday is the show’s first trailer release following a teaser last November. Dead Boy Detectives will hit Netflix April 25.
