Delroy Lindo Joins Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler's Next Movie

Delroy Lindo is heading back to the big screen.

The actor, who in recent years has starred in Hulu’s Unprisoned and appeared in Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, has closed a deal to join Michael B. Jordan in the untitled supernatural horror thriller that Ryan Coogler is directing for Warner Bros.

Little is known about that project — and what is known has yet to be confirmed by either the studio or Coogler. Insiders say the feature is set in the Jim Crow-era South, and possibly involves both vampires and Southern supernatural traditions. Jordan may be playing dual roles — as twin brothers.

Lindo’s part is being kept in the coffin, but one source describes it as having a musical element to it. The feature is gearing up for a shoot later this spring in New Orleans, and recently cast Jack O’Connell as a villain.

Coogler wrote the script and is also producing via his production company Proximity Media. Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian are also producing.

The project, which The Hollywood Reporter first revealed in January, was a subject of a heated bidding war in the winter, with Warners coming out on top thanks to unique deal that will see some of the movie’s rights reverting to the filmmaker over the course of several decades.

The studio has set a March 7, 2025, release date. It will also play in Imax theaters.

Lindo is a veteran actor who received considerable acclaim for his commanding performance in 2019’s Da 5 Bloods, Spike Lee’s war drama that also starred Chadwick Boseman. He followed that up with a turn in The Harder They Fall, Jeymes Samuel’s all-star Western. The actor is known for his key roles in movies such as Get Shorty and Gone in 60 Seconds, and his work with Lee, which also includes Clockers, Crooklyn and Malcolm X. Unprisoned, in which he stars opposite Kerry Washington, is wrapping up shooting its second season for Hulu.

Lindo, who is developing his directorial debut with the feature Jabari’s People, is repped by IAG.
