Peacemaker is adding some new faces for season two of the DC Studios series, which is currently in production. Picard actor Sol Rodriguez and The Office‘s David Denman are among the series newcomers to the show.
DC Studios co-chief James Gunn will direct three episodes of Peacemaker, which centers on John Cena’s Christopher Smith, the shiny helmeted anti-hero he first played in the Gunn-directed The Suicide Squad in 2022.
Rodriguez will play Sasha Bordeaux, who debuted in the comics in 2000’s Detective Comics No. 751 and is known as a Batman ally. Writer Greg Rucka and artist Shawn Martinbrough created the character. Rodriguez, who hails from Argentina, played Doctor Teresa Ramirez on season two of Picard and led the Netflix rom-com Holiday in the Vineyards. She has the indie crime drama The Sheriff coming up, with previous credits including Freeform’s Party of Five reboot and ABC Signature/Lifetime series Devious Maids.
Denman joins Peacemaker in an undisclosed role. He is known for playing Roy on NBC’s The Office, and previously worked in the Gunn-produced feature Brightburn. The pair have known each other since The Office days, when Gunn was previously married to Denman’s onscreen fiancee Jenna Fischer (Pam). He has worked with big filmmakers such as Michael Bay (13 Hours) and Tim Burton (Big Fish), and the TV side, he recently appeared in Bosch: Legacy, and is currently on the small screen with the new Benedict Cumberbatch Netflix series Eric.
Season one of Peacemaker bowed in 2022, and was praised for injecting a dose of humor, violence and cursing into a TV genre that is fighting to remain fresh. Season two will be part of a new universe Gunn and his DC Studios partner James Safran are building, with Frank Grillo previously announced as joining the cast as Rick Flag Sr., the father of Joel Kinnaman’s late character Rick Flag. In addition to his work on Peacemaker, Gunn is in production July 2025’s Superman movie, while his DC animated series Creature Commandoes will get a first look at the Annecy animation festival this week in France.
