The US consulate in North Sydney was attacked by a person carrying a small sledgehammer at around 3am on Monday.
The person made several attempts to shatter the glass windows at the front of the building on Miller Street, but was only able to make a series of small holes in the reinforced glass.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the person was wearing a dark hoodie, police said.
Forensic police were dusting the smashed windows of the consulate building for fingerprints on Monday morning and the entrance was blocked off with police tape.
Inverted red triangles were sprayed on the front of the building – a symbol used by some pro-Palestinian activists.
Both NSW police and Australian Federal Police officers were on the scene.

They are canvassing the area, reviewing further CCTV footage and seeking information from anyone who witnessed the incident.
The US consulate was also sprayed with graffiti in April, when the slogan “Freee [sic] Gaza” was painted on the building and pink paint was splashed on the windows.
The US consulate in Melbourne was also sprayed with graffiti by pro-Palestine activists on May 31.
