Liverpool picked up an important three points in their bid to be crowned Premier League champions on Sunday, beating Brighton 2-1 at Anfield despite falling behind early on.

An enthralling first half on Merseyside finished all square with Luis Diaz providing an equaliser following Danny Welbeck’s stunner within the opening two minutes, but the hosts knew they would need to push for a winner after the break.

That’s exactly what they did and it was Mohamed Salah who eventually grabbed the decisive winner, calmly slotting home from close range halfway through the second period and securing a crucial victory for the Reds.

Here is how X users reacted to the events that unfolded at Anfield.

Liverpool knew that they could capitalise on dropped points in the Premier League title race when Man City host Arsenal later on Sunday, but the Reds made a nightmare start to their clash with Brighton at Anfield.

The Seagulls took advantage of some sloppy Liverpool defending with less than two minutes played to snatch a lead, Welbeck producing a sensational volleyed effort from the edge of the penalty area to stun the hosts.

Liverpool quickly found their feet after a difficult start to proceedings and they managed to find a deserved equaliser halfway through the first period.

Mohamed Salah’s header was flicked towards the Brighton goal by Joel Veltman’s outstretched leg following a corner, with Luis Diaz staying onside and turning home with a smart finish from close range.

Liverpool continued to press and probe after the restart and Salah was seemingly on the end of every chance the hosts had in and around the penalty – wasting all of them in an uncharacteristically poor finishing display.

However, the Egyptian eventually managed to etch his name on to the scoresheet with 25 minutes to play, coolly converting Alexis Mac Allister’s wonderful pass to put Liverpool ahead with his ninth shot of the afternoon.

There was special mention for Mac Allister after he provided the assist for Salah’s strike as well, with the Argentine having bossed the game from start to finish against his former employers.

Despite a slightly nervy finish at Anfield as Brighton fought for an equaliser, Liverpool did hold on to claim three absolutely vital points in the title race.

It was a result that came with joy and relief for Liverpool supporters.
