AP Week in Pictures: Europe and Africa

Feb. 23–29, 2024

Ukrainians marked the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. A year after a shipwreck killed 94 migrants, survivors and family members returned for three days of commemoration in Steccato di Cutro, Italy. Farmers continued their protests outside the European Parliament offices in Madrid. Russian human rights activist Oleg Orlov, who criticized the war in Ukraine, was convicted by a Moscow court and sentenced to 2½ years in prison.

This gallery highlights some of the most compelling images made or published in the past week by Associated Press photographers in Europe and Africa.

The selection was curated by AP photographer Gregorio Borgia in Rome.
